The Shell Store
1. In the centre of the photograph is an Ammunition Hatch which was used to pass ammunition out to the men working on the north western vertical Ammunition Hoist. Below the hatch is a small doorway which would have been fitted with a steel door.
On the left of the photograph is a Lantern Recess with the glass door missing.
2. A view through both Shell Storage Rooms taken from the ammunition Hatch shown in 1 above.
3. The Shell Storage Room which once served the south eastern vertical Ammunition Hoist. Note the steel rails and the crossbeams in photographs 2 & 3. These formed hoists for moving quantities of ammunition within the rooms. There are no lantern recesses in the storage areas.
4. A lantern Recess in the passageway between the two Ammunition Storage rooms underneath the gun emplacement. There is another lantern recess opposite this one.
