Gun barrel slung on a tripod.

6-Inch QF No.2 Emplacement

Before RestorationDuring restoration
ABOVE: The No.2 Emplacement before & during restoration.

Gun barrel slung from a tripodShell DoorLEFT: How a gun barrel would have been hoisted into place on the emplacement using a tripod. The blue steel doors cover ‘Ready To Use’ lockers in which ammunition and propellant charges would be stored so that they would be available quickly.

In reality, the gun mounting would have been installed first, and then the barrel lifted into position.

RIGHT: At the top of the Shell Hoist in the Magazine is this hatch on the side side of the emplacement.

Ammunition Hoist coverLEFT: The cover for the top of the Cartridge Hoist. Notice the water run-off around the left cover. This is to prevent rain entering the hoist and damaging the mechanism. This is most probably the original cover. The cover for the No. 1 Gun Hoist is not original and dates from the restoration of the emplacement.
