Mount Serapong 8 Inch BL Battery

Drawing of the 8 Inch Battery
A fine drawing of the 8 Inch Battery by Aaron Kao

The No.1 Gun is on the right in the illustration above, and ammunition Expense Magazines are by each gun. Two Infantry Redoubts are to the left and the top left, and a wire fence surrounds the Battery. Just above the Casemates and to the right is a Signalling Post. Here a Heliograph would have sent messages to other places on Blakang Mati. There were however telephone Communications from the Battery Commanders Post as well.

The Casemates as planned. The Lamp Room was where all the oil lamps used in the Casemates and Magazine were kept and maintained. The staircase on the right led to the No.1 Gun Emplacement. This and the path on the gun side were cleared during the 2006 archaeological survey and dig in the area. Frontages were added to the three right rooms during the upgrade to 9·2 Inch Guns.

Note the difference in the frontage of the two Casemate rooms originally enclosed and the three later enclosed ones on the right. The two on the left have the doors and windows opposite to the original plans.
